On June 8th, 2022, in Hanoi, Power<\/em> Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 3 (EVNPECC3) under Vietnam Electricity (EVN) organized a Seminar on Sea and Island Economy<\/em>: Issuance of survey permit for offshore wind power projects (SPOWP 2022).<\/em><\/p>\n

The Seminar had more than 350 delegates and partners from Electricity & Renewable Energy Authority, Ministry of Industry and Trade, GIZ Energy Support Program, German Embassy in Vietnam, UK\u2019s ASEAN Low Carbon Energy Programme, British Embassy in Vietnam, Danish Embassy in Vietnam, and the participation of experts and leading businesses in renewable energy, especially offshore wind power \u200b\u200bin the world.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the opening of the Seminar, Mr. Tran Quoc Dien, Vice President of EVNPECC3 said that SPOWP 2022 is organized with the aim of creating a forum for Vietnamese government agencies, policy makers, Embassies and stakeholders to share existing concerns, learn from international experiences in licensing survey for offshore wind power projects; at the same time, contribute to proposing mechanisms and policies for the development of offshore wind power in Vietnam.<\/p>\n

Vietnam is located in the tropical monsoon climate, with a coastline stretching over 3,000 km with 28 coastal provinces and cities. Therefore, the potential for wind energy development in Vietnam is enormous. Technological advances made in recent years have also enhanced the stability and feasibility of offshore wind power. With the investment in transmission system as well as smart regulation, offshore wind power has the potential to become one of the main sources of energy supply of Vietnam’s energy system in the future, thereby reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels.<\/p>\n

However, at present, offshore wind power is still considered a new field in Vietnam. The actualization and concretization of the direction requires “building support policies and breakthrough mechanisms for offshore wind power development in association with the implementation of the Vietnam Maritime Strategy” stated in Resolution 55 of the Government are still facing many obstacles at all levels and sectors.<\/p>\n

At the Seminar, the speakers shared about the current state of the power grid system in Vietnam, experience in licensing surveys for offshore wind power projects from countries including Germany, the United Kingdom and Denmark.<\/p>\n

Concluding at the Seminar, the representative of EVNPECC3 thanked and acknowledged the very practical contributions of the delegates, suitable to the current needs and affirmed that the comments at the Seminar will be synthesized, research to contribute to helping planners and stakeholders have an appropriate approach to the development of offshore wind power projects in Vietnam.<\/p>\n
